About Event
Barbados Grand Kadooment Day
Grand Kadooment Day is the spectacular grand finale of Barbados’ Crop Over Festival, celebrating the end of the sugar cane harvest season. It is the largest and most anticipated street parade on the island, known for its explosion of color, music, and revelry.
On Grand Kadooment Day, Masquerade Bands make their way to the Mighty Grynner Highway, with 15,000 revelers dressed in sequined costumes adorned with colorful feathers, jewels, and bright accents. Dancing behind massive music trucks and mobile bars, participants move to the pulsating beats of Soca and Calypso hits, creating an electrifying atmosphere.
Event Highlights:
• Parade of Bands: The parade begins at the National Stadium and makes its way through the streets of St. Michael, pulsating with energy and vibrant music.
• The Route: Since 2014, the route has been extended to include the entire length of Black Rock Road, meeting the Mighty Grynner Highway at the Frank Worrell Roundabout.
• Costume Design and Masquerading: The art of masquerading is celebrated through extravagant costume designs and creative construction, showcasing Barbadian craftsmanship and cultural pride.
• Music and Dance: Revelers dance to the infectious rhythms of Soca and Calypso music, creating an unparalleled carnival experience.
Grand Kadooment Day is not just a parade—it’s Barbados’ version of Carnival, attracting both locals and visitors from around the world. It is the showpiece of the Crop Over Festival, drawing attention from regional and international journalists. The celebration preserves and sustains the cultural art form of masquerading in Barbados, making it a must-see event for anyone seeking an authentic Caribbean experience.
